Acorn CNC control kits are both a CNC Hardware and CNC Software DIY system designed to work together for easy CNC setup and operation with minimal fuss.
Centroid "AcornSix" Step and Direction CNC Controller kit: a 6 axis CNC control with built-in motion control CPU.
A reliable, high performance, industrial quality CNC control at a do-it-yourself price. AcornSix utilizes an integrated 1Ghz ARM Cortex A8 Motion Control CPU and communicates with CNCPC via a fast and reliable Ethernet connection. The AcornSix CNC control board controls a wide variety of axis motors and drives with industry standard step and direction command signal. Perfect for many types of machine tools such as: CNC milling machines, a wide variety of CNC Routers, CNC lathes to CNC Lasers, and other specialty applications. Compatible with small to large axis motors of all types and can be used with most any AC brushless servo motor drive packages such as: DMM, Delta, Estun, Teco, Teknic, Yaskawa and others. Any drive that accepts step and direction commands. Most all stepper motor drives are compatible with the AcornSix such as the popular Gecko and Leadshine stepper drives. AcornSix runs on Centroid's proven industrial quality CNC control software.
Uwe Mattern –
I am using Acorn Six for a lathe with additional C / Y axis and a second spindle for live tooling.
Axes are driven with JMC AC servos with 400kHz step rate and full closed loop with linear scales.
Spindles are also JMC AC servos in speed mode +-10V
It is also possible to use the Z Index from the scales for a high precision homing
Setup is fast and easy with the Wizard. The CNC is really fast, rigid tapping or threading with 3000 rpm is no problem. The axes are moving fast with smooth acceleration/deceleration easy to tune further with a few settings. The CNC PC is connected with ethernet cable, the real time motion control is processed on the Acorn Six board so it has not to rely on the CNC PC running with Win10/11. With a CNC PC set up to Centroids specifications and using an SSD drive the PC is booting in seconds and while working there is no noticeable delay in the CNC operations.
The UI is optimized for a fast workflow to the type of machine Acorn Six have to control.
I am working a lot with custom macros and sub programs, so another thing I like is that the system variables and parameters are the same on all Centroid controls. You can use your knowledge from customizing one machine on the next one regardless which controller or machine type.
Acorn Six is a very reliable and easy to maintain CNC system, very well documented to do your own customizing.
